Not yet can medical science do that. But eventually.
In 10 or 20 years, when they can grow a new human from an egg and sperm without a host to incubate it at all, will it be a human, or just part of the machine it's growing in ?
What if they never remove it from the machine, can they raise it to adult size and harvest it's organs ?

Not sure what that means. Personally I think there are only 2 logical possibilities as far as abortion law goes.
1. We define a clear point in the developmental process where it becomes a separate human (that is apart from it's physical location) and that is that.
2. We define that the woman has a right to "evict" the parasite anytime she wants, but the doctors have to make every attempt to allow it to live.
The only other option is to just say that we don't really care if it's murder, we have too many people around anyway and we don't really need them all.

Because the only difference birth makes is the physical location of the baby. If it's a human when it's outside the mom, why wasn't it a human 30 seconds before when it was inside ?
I have a hard time with the concept that you become a separate human being by moving 12 inches toward the bottom of the bed.

Have you particpated first-hand in delivering a human baby? I have - three times. I don't think most midwives would call birth "...moving 12 inches toward the bottom of the bed". Certainly most mothers would not!

Just the fact that most deliveries could be done weeks earlier without anything more than a few drugs to induce them makes me think it isn't a suitable dividing line for "the beginning of a human life"

Birth is one of a long line of "firsts" that child will make, but it is not the "first" first.
By the time the child has been born, it has already had it's first heartbeat, it's first thought, it's first movement, it's first reaction to stimulus and a whole host of other firsts.
After it's born it has a whole other list of "firsts", it's first breath, it's first meal, it's first sight, and later it's first words and first steps.
Why pick the ones you do ?
And I realize that birth is a magical experience for those involved, but you have to recognize that the child you just witnessed come into the world was already doing basically everything you witness except breathing weeks ago.

Except it is not a child before. It is part of the woman until birth. Perhaps we deny this as men because we subconciously wish we could create as only women can. Men are window dressing it would seem. No wonder we wage war so readily. Our heroics are transparently weak and doomed.

Most here I believe (at least in this discussion) would categorize them as the same thing. We find that allowing one and prohibiting the other is hypocritical.
If you are going to take the position that abortion up to the moment of birth should be legal, why not till the cord is cut ? or the baby no longer breastfeeding ?

I'm pretty sure that having a brain is what defined you as a person. Going through a vagina doesn't impart a consciousness into the baby or something. I'm sure any doctor who has done a c-section can see that the baby inside the woman is quite obviously alive.
