I had a boss back in the 1990's that was a stereotypical liberal who thought this country had no redeeming qualities (racist, sexist, etc). We would frequently discuss politics. Fortunately we were both able to keep it civil despite our obvious differences. I always used the line about the flow of people as my trump card. I remember asking him why are so many Hispanics coming to this country if it is such a racist hell-hole. He never had an answer but of course he never changed his mind.

Imperialism is when one country uses geopolitics and military to gain unfair advantage over other countries and feather its own nest at the expense of others. The textbook example of that is Panama Canal. We staged a revolution in Colombia to break it up and made a deal with break away Panama to build the canal which we controlled and profited from for so many years. The West did the same thing by breaking up Soviet Union and looting its resources. We are seeing this today as U.S. government is trying to disrupt Russia's gas exports to Europe and imposing a series of baseless sanctions to sabotage Russia's economy.
Yes we live better at the expense of others, but for how long they will let us? BTW, there are Westerners, including Americans, who are moving to Russia and starting up successful businesses. It's all over youtube.

While Communism as economic system is unobtainable goal and centralized economy proved to be a failure. Marxism was successful antidote for rampant Imperialism, Colonialism and Fascism. This is why there is such a disparity in views on Communist legacy between people in different parts of the world. It depends on their history.

Beyone that, today Russia is as capitalist as we are. Since the fall of the Soviet Union they got much much better, and we have gotten much much worse.
With our wanna be communists in charge, Russia might be a better bet soon. I'd take Putin over Biden any day. At least Putin can keep the lights on.

The Soviets were every bit as imperialistic as we were. Colonialism is just primitive imperialism.
Facism is just the capitalist flavor of totalitarianism. Communism has that totalitarianism baked right in.
Facism is the word for a totalitarian regime built on capitalism. It is a special case in capitalism, and a warning that you need to beware or your capitalism can go to a bad place.
There is no such word for totalitarian communism. Because there is no such thing as a non totalitarian version of communism.
Every single Warsaw Pact country had higher standard of living than what people had in the Soviet Union. Your claim of Soviet Imperialism is baseless. In fact Soviet aid to other countries, which got then nothing in return, contributed to the collapse of their economy.
After WWII ended and Soviet agriculture was left in shambles, trainloads of food supplies were sent to Poland from the Soviet Union. This was while Soviet people were starving and their country was still in ruins. There are countless example like that. It even caused some civil unrest in the Soviet Union. Soviet Imperialism????? What a joke.
You can manipulate isms all you want, but you can't change history. Communists led the fight against Imperialism, Colonialism and Fascism. It's a matter of historical record.

My great uncle was in Germany during WW2 . He had a trucking business and the government took everything he had for the war effort. When the war ended russia took every machine in any factory that survived the war . Stripped anything they could. They were awarded a small patch of land to grow food in which the soviets took a large percentage . Their housing quarters were an old drafty barn that they shared with 2 other families. If one protested about the way they were treated a knock on the door around midnight happened and you were taken away . Most of the time to be slave labor in a russian factory or sawing timber in the Taiga. He was alerted that they were planning to take him away and his family fled just hours before it was his time to be charged and deported . It is my understanding the soviets dismantled any machine that would work and sent it back to Russia.. This happened all over Europe that was under soviet control...
German civilians were never deported to Russia after or during the WWII. You are not telling the whole story.
Russian civilians from occupied territory were taken into Germany as slave laborers.

Soviet Union implemented its own version of Marshall plan to rebuild Eastern Europe. While still in ruins Soviets sent economic aid to Eastern European countries. It was called Molotov Plan.
