Here's a question for our FFL friends...

If the gun shop would have purchased the pistol from the woman and added it to their inventory, would there be any repercussions for the gun shop for taking in a pistol from someone who didn't have a permit?

Hard to say. All they have to do was keep her id on file. It shows she is from tx. FFL can buy from any state. It could be articulated it was purchased elsewhere

Edit: Not that it ever had to be articulated.

I spoke to an old time FFL a few years ago and he said that decades ago, if a State Trooper stopped someone from out of state (or even from out of the country) with an unlicensed handgun, a call would be put in to him and he would purchase said handgun, and then the driver would be sent on their way.

What a difference 50 years of Democrap rule makes.

This is a good time to just admit that you are infact biased against law enforcement. Maybe not heavily, but certainly to an extent.

This cop holds ZERO culpability. This is 100% on the gun store for calling 911 and putting the cop in this position. Anyone who disagrees just doesn't really like cops.

Sorry. That's a fact.

Nope, the cop who enforces BS is responsible for enforcing BS. You don't get to pass responsibility off on anyone else.

I'll admit, I am biased against any law enforcement who think the law is more important than decency. I agree that you guys are often put in shit situations like this, and that the legislature is primarily to blame for that, but how you react to those situations is all on you.

In your mind. I'm usually open to discussion, but we finally found the perfect example to "out" the truth: a few of you just don't like cops.

This was as close to a 100% no choice situation as possible, totally instigated by an FFL who had options (as described by our resident FFL), and likely could have even legally taken the gun. Instead he called the cops.

Anyone who disagrees has a degree of anti-law enforcement in them. You certainly are entitled to explain your view of why you are anti-law enforcement, which you did above, but the fact remains that you are. ;)

I will firmly admit that I don't like a lot of what you guys do. This is one example. This cop had as much choice about ruining this women's life as the FFL did.

Do you like lawyers, or IRS agents, or politicians ? I am sure that many decent people work in those professions, all 3 are necessary for society to function. All 3 occasionally screw over otherwise good people as a course of "just doing their job".

Am I anti-cop, no, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who can do your job without succumbing to the dark side. I just dont have any sympathy for people who take the job, and then do succumb and then try to blame it on the job.

Where did I assign fault? I clearly said if I was that cop, AND if I had the powers.

I don't know the state side of things to determine what and how much discretion troopers have on a matter like this. How about you tell us? I would like to know.
