Updated Standing of H.R. 38

The senate version is in the judiciary committee now. We need 60 votes on the senate floor for it to pass. There are 52 repubs, and we know some are rhinos. Figure at least 10 demoncrats will need to support it. My fingers are crossed, but im not very optimistic.

Its been a while since I've been in high school history class, but doesn't only 51/100 need to vote in favor for it to pass? A supermajority is only needed in case of a filibuster or if it is vetoed by the president to my understanding. Besides, didn't the tax bill last week pass with 51 votes?

Can a filibuster be done with just one senator? If it can my idiot of a senator will filibuster because he's a Kool-Aid slurping, Bloomberg-obsessed ******.

We need to hope we can get a few dems to flip. They WILL filibuster this. They can't let all the "progress" be turned back.

I see this from a simpler point of view, Paul Ryno publicly stated "now is not the time" for HR 38. Just as the human body, this too will die.

Honestly, I think the only way they would consider passing it is if it had a national AW Ban and 5 round mag limit fixed to it. Our puppet masters care nothing about Constitutional Rights, especially the 2nd.

Imagine his reaction when he finds out it will allow people with misdemeanors (and other minor infractions that NY regularly denies CCW applications for) who live in NY to get out an out of state permit and still carry in this state. LMAO

But similar Senate legislation still faces an uncertain future, with top Democrats and other gun-control advocates rallying in opposition on Capitol Hill.
Gun-control advocates are also reportedly getting $25 million from ex-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, through his Everytown for Gun Safety group, to block the reciprocity bill.

Cornyn’s bill is now in his chamber’s Judiciary Committee.

In 2013, Cornyn got support for his bill from 13 Democrats, including seven who are still in the Senate. He would need their support and more to pass the measure with a 60-vote majority, considering Republicans have 52 senators in the chamber.

Don't you have to get a NY state permit before you can get an out of state permit ? Pennsylvania ... for example ?

I think in many cases yes, but I thought in others (like Utah for example) you can get an out of state permit without first having one in your home state. I may be wrong though.

For PA yes and it has to be unrestricted. But you can get other states nonresident with out a NY license, I believe Arizona is one

Not true. Many counties in PA will issue permits to those who have NY permits with administrative restrictions.

A New Yorker can go get a out of State Conceal Carry Permit, BUT, Getting a handgun would be impossible for you to obtain because you would need a New Yorkistan permit to buy one. It' a Catch 22 for you guys.

I'm sure your Furror will have his cronnies work 24/7 to fight this and any gun law that favors you, the average Joe.

I did the vote math based off the 2013 Senate Vote on National Reciprocity.

The bill will not pass. We need 60 votes, and the best case situation for us is that we get ALL of the Dems from last time to join ALL of the Republicans for a total of 58. I expect we'll probably only get about 55 because several senators will change their minds just to #RESIST.

Feel free to correct my math if I'm missing something, but I'm not expecting McCaskill, Hassan, or Brown to have a sudden moment of enlightenment. If we had taken Reed's seat in NV and also kept Ayotte in NH, then maybe with a lot of praying we would have a chance. Don't get your hopes up.

It is unusual for a filibuster to effectively kill a bill. Especially one that has as much support backing it from one of the largest and oldest special interest groups in this country. Regardless, anything we say is mere speculation at this point.

IF the damn RINO’s were actually in our court, McConnell would kill the filibuster for ordinary bills such as this one. It should then pass, and that would be that.

But I don’t believe that McConnell & Co. will do that, and just like in 2013, this will die another painful death. A lot of blood sweat and tears for nothing.

Then again, MAYBE there is the slightest chance it could pass with 60 votes due to some Democrats voting in favor and using the Fix NICS aspect as an excuse, but I don’t have high hopes for that to happen.

On a related note, I am hopeful that we will now see that obnoxious cocksucking Frankengroper resign from the Senate tomorrow, and then watch him drag his ass back to Minnesota.

Unfortunately, with MN having a Democrat Governor, he will likely be immediately replaced with an appointed Democrat replacement Senator, who will then be that much harder to replace in a few years when Frankengroper’s term expires. Although he would have been a pain to watch in action until the end of his term, he would have been mortally wounded politically, and much easier to possibly replace with a Republican voted in to replace him in due course.

Trump winning potus, while yes suprising, is not the same as needing 60 votes to pass a bill in a Senate who 1 isn' going to vote 100% party line (it "republicans are always pro 2a" <Hahaha I laughed a bit even typing that) and only having 52 Republican seats,
