Vehicles for SHTF or bugging out.

Has anyone given this topic any thought? I mean beyond jumping in the Ford Taurus with your stuff in the trunk and heading out. I looked around the interweb and saw all manner of vehicles, from deuce and a half trucks to school buses and just about everything in between in various stages of mad-maxery.
Would it be beneficial to have a vehicle with some "enhancements" just in case you need it? Even if you have no plans to "bug out", eventually supply runs may take you farther away from your home. Would an enhanced vehicle be a benefit? What enhancements would you do?

I'm driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma , TRD off road. There were many factors that went into this purchase such as fuel mileage and size. Size for two reasons. 1, parking in the city where I have to work, and size to fit narrow trails when I go upstate or in the need of having to bug out.

My main reason for choosing the TRD off-road package was because it comes with the suspension and skid plates needed for off road. I don't do much off roading ,only a little to get to my long-range shooting area, but I wanted the undercarriage protection in case I had to bug out. Also, fuel mileage will also play a factor in bugging out. If I had a Giant gas guzzler, I would be needing to feed that thing much more frequently.

Fuel is your limiting factor with any vehicle. Only plan on using it temporarily as a one way ticket so to speak.

What got me thinking about all of this was remembering a guy, who, back in the 80s had a school bus that he had put a wood stove in and a partition. he used part of it to haul firewood and "lived" in the front. I also saw a guy on the World of Outlaws sprint car circuit use a bus as a hauler and race shop at the track. Car in the back end, small shop in the front. He was quite an inventor and tinkerer as well as somewhat eccentric. The guy with the wood stove was the best though, going down the road at 55 with smoke pouring out of the chimney. It seems like a bus has quite a bit of potential but it is limited by size and lack of off road capability. Maybe a multi-fuel deuce and a half would be a compromise, but the cargo area is open and it can only fit two or three in the cab.

Recently bought a new bike formuself and the wife. The kids already have. Besides good exercise, and family bonding time, shtf was a consideration. Our bug out location is about 110 miles away.

2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. Great on gas. Fits anywhere. Excellent safety features for when you have to slam through baracades. Good for storage, holds my firearms, food, water, and still have room for other stuff. Has AWD along with other settings for different weathers. I feel it was a good choice. Also the seats inside convert into a bed for emergency nap times.

Aren't the standard deuces multi fuel capable from the factory? I saw a 1950s vintage Air Force truck that was multi fuel ready.

If you think an EMP attack is a realistic possibility than most modern vehicles are not reliable enough due to potential electrical damage. Opinions vary on how badly cars and trucks may be affected but unless the car is grounded it seems to be the case that it will be rendered inoperable.

I happen to think EMP coupled with cyberattacks is the #1 SHTF/TEOTWAWKIT situation and have planned around it while also getting a fun weekend ride with my '79 K5 Blazer. No CPU and is carbureted. Not a daily driver but good for the mall on Saturday and the end of the world.

79 Blazer has electronic ignition, may fail with emp. 79 carb has electronic valving and solenoids. Get a point type ignition and an old Holley carb.
