I've got an old Mossberg single shot...perfect. In fact it was called the Boy Scout rifle. Young kid, adult, whatever, contemplation shot to shot. I've no idea what might be currently available, and decent priced. My two cents...something that can be passed down, make it memorable.
My KelTec P3AT...had the damn thing forever. Never fails. Been out of production for some time now. I've got to believe used ones and old stock are dirt cheap, I probably couldn't give mine away. I've tweak it...money down the drain, but it fills the bill. I'll stick with it.
Truth be told, I bought an electric sharpener for the kitchen knives and haven't used the kit since. I thought about just ditching it, but there's a million of them for sale, so I still have it. I guess the kit used to be a thing, but after using them folks can't be bothered with the fuss.
I've got a now old Lansky (?)kit that will make blade so sharp you'll get cut just looking at it. Need some patience using it.
Wife got me three Japanese saw long time ago...these are THE best.
I bought the materials online from a knife supply place in Texas (?). The wood was sawn in half, so the pieces were book matched. I have an old Craftsman belt sander that I clamped upside-down on my workbench and used that to shape the handle. I do like cocobolo! I think my mother-inlaw used...
Since this thread seems to have pooped out, I thought I'd tell a chef's knife rehab story. Wifey has an old Henckels 10 inch chef's knife that belonged to her mother. The knife was abused...hammered on, scratched to hell, apparently lived in the dishwasher...the wooden scales were destroyed...
I've said it before. DEC is not the old conservation department. It was merged with the environmental quality programs from the dept. of health and became a regulatory, environmental/social justice/political tool of the governor's office.
The fish and wildlife programs of old with roots in...
Sad news. When I was young I worked with a woman whose father was a Remington employee. Everybody used her as a pass-through for getting gun work done at Remington. And later in life I worked with guy who went to school with Rob from White Dog. And even later I came to know another gun smith...
Many thanks guys for the info. I have always felt that the folks at Remington got fucked over no matter which way things would go, recently or in the past.
I don't know why, but the firearms industry in the Mohawk Valley has such historical roots...one would think that this would be...
Last weekend we went for a joy ride west on 20 to Cazenovia and came back east on 5S, passing through Illion. Going past the Remington factory I wondered if all the firearms were still sitting in the museum...loved that place.
Anybody know anything about the present situation with that collection?
I confess that I have no experience with Rem shotguns...but I've used cold bluing on several barrels that came out really nice. Matching to other blued parts might be close enough.
I only suggested Cerakote because I did a Mossberg over a fews back and the receiver was painted aluminum.
We bought our Chicago set maybe 25 or more years ago. The walnut handles have been restored at least three times. We've given away the steak, slicer/roast, and parings knives. All are still in use and we still have a chef, bread and two steaking knives. I'll bet we paid $20.00 for the...
Lamson...Lamson | Fine Cutlery, Kitchen Tools and BBQ Implements...we've got a bunch of the Fire kitchen knives. Chicago Knives used to be a great buy, stamped stainless with walnut...that's where we started our collection years ago.
There's some really nice stuff rom France and Italy too at...
One trick I've used on old beater walnut stocks is to steam out scratches and dings, sand down to clean bare wood, and then literally paint the stock with a dark walnut dye...turn it black. Then I sand all that off, 220 then 400. Then no more dye or stain, just oil, whatever you like.
I've...
Stopped by the county pistol office yesterday to see about this semi auto rifle endorsement bs. The clerk was out in the hallway speaking with a woman and her hubby about handgun possession in a vehicle. The woman was going on and on about keeping a handgun concealed while driving and secure...
