An old timer near me used to work in a local saw mill. He says long time ago It used to be fairly common for sawn stuff to show grey streaks of lead.
He also told a story about a log that came through with a completely grown over mill file in it. His guess was a long gone logger sharpened his...
Apparently so, although locally I never heard a thing, which is not really a surprise either. Closed mouth crowd.
How's things on your side of the kingdom?
My concern would be with new Henry rifles. Man, I had a brass belt buckle from Uncle Sam and that got the hell polished out of it...no way the shine on that thing would ever fail. I wonder if...does the Army even have brass buckles anymore? I digress.
I only ask because I'm considering a...
I've been reading up on Henry rifles a bit and came across the notion that the brass doesn't hold up. The receivers...so it was said, are not really machined from brass, but rather just given a brass finish. And that over time it fades. Or something like that.
I can well imagine a metal...
Just wanted to share...
I live in a rural area. And used to frequent the watering holes...none of which are closer than ten miles. Tavern types ran the gamut of farmers, loggers, trades, and in the fall plenty of hunters.
It never ceased to amaze me, the stories of wolves, coyotes, cougars...
About a week or so ago, after reading this thread, I figured I would recertify early just to get it out of the way, despite all the Hochul horseshit. My recert date is in this coming November, so I'd be a few months early.
I visited the NYSP website, pulled up my info, and none of it reflected...
Yes, it was the real deal built in Ilion. One time I bought several rifles from a woman my wife knew. Her father was in a nursing home and she wanted to get rid of the rifles; the #5 rolling block was one of them. The breach and hammer were locked up and I had to run the cleaning rod down it...
I never fired it. If you read up on it, the 7mm Mauser was a pretty new cartridge at the time...hardly standardized. It's a handloading thing that can be done, but factory stuff is dicey...case length, headspacing, iffy chambers. The action is considered to be robust though.
Once upon a time I had one in 7mm Mauser. I explored turning it into a 45-70...Numrich at one time sold barrels for this. But now it would be stupid money and I sold it. It can be done though if you want to hunt buffalo.
I purchased a BAR MK3 a few years ago. Japanese made, Turkish walnut I believe, excellent bluing, very light, expensive mags that do not hold ten rounds. Super nice, and there are bits made of plastic or synthetic...whatever it is. Certainly not "tactical", but that's not my thing. Choices...
