View attachment 167010 First pickling cucumber this season. I have several more growing as well. Pretty excited to make a batch of pickles. I had several cherry tomatoes as well but they didn’t make it to the house.

I’ve got a kitchen table full to pickling cuckes here. I’ve got a table full of Zucchini’s too

All y’all gotta stop growing zucchini in your gardens, that shit ain’t selling good at all! I got a cooler full that’s gonna end up as compost. My second field is about to hit off in about 5 days. I’d usually keep picking off the first but I’m gonna just bush hog it.

not even going to plant a third planting ( tho in September when no one has zucchini and it’s 20$ a case I’ll regret it lol

Funny you say that. We didn’t grow any types of squash this year. Yesterday we were looking at some properties in PA and ran across a table in front of someones house with yellow squash and zucchini with a pay box. price was $0.25 a piece for large sized veg. Much cheaper than us trying to grow it.

So far we got
4 heads of romaine lettuce
6 zucchini with a few more on the way
Couple dozen cherry tomatoes but probably 100 more will ripen and fall off while I’m on vacation

broccoli went weird and needs to be pulled out.
After cutting off lettuce it went weird.
Kale is ready but I hate it so I’m not picking it
Lots of big green tomatoes

My wife cracked into one of the cukes that got picked last week. It was disgustingly bitter and inedible. She did some reading and apparently that can happen during dry or harsh conditions. Sucks.

Cukes are a lot of water. Try a few good soakings and see what happens.

Overall my stuff is looking good. I should get a fairly good harvest of onions, leaks, potatoes, carrots, apples and peas/beans. Strawberries were pretty good this year and raspberries were great. Blueberries are slowly turning blue now and black berries look great as well.

I’ve been picking basil and some coolbenaro peppers. Yes these are hobenaros that have no heat.

My wife makes finishing salts. We picked three of the largest out of nine Basil bushes that we are growing to start the salt drying process.
I also picked a dozen jalapeños and a doz. Portuguese hot peppers. The cubanelle frying peppers are coming along nicely and will be picked soon to roast on the grill, stuffed with provolone cheese Prosciutto , and spices.

Blackberries are now starting to ripen. I picked a few today with many more to come.

F’ing squirrels are getting my apples now. They ate half the ones I had on my two trees today alone. They aren’t just eating the apples but they chewy the branches off to get them. I wrapped what’s left in bird netting in hopes of saving the 10 that are left.

The little bastards along with all the rabbits are all over this year! I’ve been battling the squirrels on my apple tree with my pellet pistol.
The rabbits, eh. I’ve got most everything fenced with chicken wire. I’ll deal with those little bastards come early hunting season. We’ll be having ample amounts of hasenpfeffer stew.

y potato plants were dying off so I harvested them and I got enough for a meal out of a few plants. A couple produced almost nothing and the few looked great and produced a good bit.

Nice stash of pickles you have going. B&B are my favorite. Try making some spicy B&B pickles , they’re excellent, you won’t be able to stop eating them !

This year has been tough. I think that’s why my haters tops died off early from the water hitting the leaves.

I’ve found that early morning watering works best to keep the veggie plants lush and green , and I Never water directly onto the plants themselves in the hot summer months.

Something leveled my shishito pepper plants. Was going to Star harvesting them and found the peppers, leaves & stems were completely eaten.

Canning bananna peppers today. Got a crap ton, never had a good of a year with any pepper planta as I have this year. Hopefully saucing tomatoes this weekend. As usual ended up with too many zuchinni, but the chickens and ducks love them so it works out. Vac sealed and froze 5lbs of string beans. Corn is almost ready. Celery is almost ready. Not enuff cukes to can the f*cking rabbit got some of my plants early. Pumpkins are getting big. Harvested my garlic. I could go on ...

Shredded zucchini vaccume seals and freezes very well for sweet breads and other winter use recipes .

Oh ya, wife already made zuchinni stew and breads. Will probably freeze some. Im okay with chickens eating them, saves on feed. Last I checked I had about 20 zuchinni and they are still growing. Backed off watering daily so they should slow down.

I try that but this veggie patch is impossible not to get the leaves wet. I have a soaker hose so I may install that next season after I expand and rework the soil. I have plans for next year.
