Man this thread has me itching to do a build. Might be time to order the last 2 parts I need for another .223 Wylde- all I need is a mid/rifle handguard and stripped upper.

And @dsdmmat your endorsement carries a lot of weight, I may finally have to finally break down and do a '10 - if I can find someone to transfer the lower for me. Probably wait until May for that.

The matrix takes a Armalite lower parts kit. The takedown pins, bolt stop and rear detent spring are different than the DPMS. There is a place in Florida I got my parts from. I will find a link.

That's a little more challenging than a straight-up assembly, but it really isn't that difficult. You pay for it though... your stripped Anderson lower sells for +/- $ 45. To cut your own will cost you +/- $ 200 or more. Jig, end mills, 80% lower, and you need a good drill press or milling machine, calipers, and time. Also, expect to F' k up your first one. Now, that being said, if you plan on building a bunch of your own lowers, it might be worth it.

Should you actually consider buying a jig and tooling, remember that not all jigs are created equal. I have used several different ones, and have developed a preference for one. I can tell you where to get end mills locally, too. PM me if you want info.

Oh, and keep in mind that if you make your own, MONKEY FACE WILL HATE YOU, CALL YOU EVIL, AND TURN YOU INTO A FELON WITH THE STROKE OF A PEN.

Used 5d tactical milling kit for AR 80% lowers.

Includes 5d kit (used for 1 aluminum lower).
Mikita router (higher end routers work better than cheapos)
Un-milled poly 80% lower.

80% is doable with a multi speed drill press (I use my Shopsmith) and a couple end mill bits and a cheap jig (mine was around $50 a few years back).
