The vast majority still can't compete with a rifle for serious work. For a range gun and cheap practice they are great. In any other case why carry around something the same size as a m-4 that can't compete with a rifle cartridge? The .357 magnum really shines from a longer tube but I have yes to see an semi-auto carbine for it yet!
Don't forget that at self defense distances which is usually no more than 50 yards, both will kill you. At ranges up to 150 yards, both will still kill you. The rifle shines after 200 yards where the PCC will fail. As a civilian, I'll never need to take a 200 yard plus shot on a person. So as a home defense and or truck gun, the PCC makes more sense since it can be reloaded with magazines I already carry.
I'd prefer something in .357 Sig that penetrates armor. That 5.7 is good in a carbine but terrible in a pistol.
Self-defense is usually much less than 50 yards. Both will kill however one might end bad intentions sooner. I don't think any 9mm can match a 5.56 at any distance. As for the noise... I'm willing to deal with it assuming it stops the fight sooner. Why don't swat guys use 9mm carbines for the most part anymore? I have the perfect NY legal home defense (and all around defense) gun in my opinion. It's a Russian and will be converted right when I leave this state. A 10mm carbine might be a great solution. I need to look at the performance out of 16 inch tubes.
I'd say the analogy would be more accurate if we compared the shotgun with commuting in a 1 ton pickup. Perfectly doable but not an ideal solution. But in either example there would be times where either could be advantageous in the role.
Looks like a gimmick and fragile. If it can take a beating then sure. I had a sub 2000 because it was small and took my glock mags. Mine was a total POS (but that looks more well built) He also broke the law by shouldering that pistol (if no tax stamp)! JK (I think I'm kidding not sure on those braces). I will have to look into the manufacture again, but that isn't a ruger product. From what I saw it was made with high quality parts and looked reliable. Another misconception is not being able to shoulder the brace and be legal. This is false the ATF clarified this not too long ago, there was nothing illegal in this video, assuming AR pistols are legal in that state.
I know it's not the Ruger, I want a takedown like that Ruger though! Free state of mind...
You need a 115 gr with the Sig to reach 1700 fps velocities.
True, I was more talking about the increase in velocity between the barrel lengths. I figured because of the high pressure of those 2 cartridges that they would get more of a boost. I read one piece saying why the sig didn't get a bigger boost was because of the efficiency of the cartridge it's self and is tailored to the shorter barrels. I have it bookmarked at home and want to read more up on it in the future.
Did you see the 9mm results with the 90 gr Corbon HP? 1700 fps. That would penetrate a level 3A vest. I'm not sure if they make a 90 gr FMJ but if you reload...
It sucks in a pistol though. Through a pistol barrel, it fails the FBI penetration test.

I was thinking the police would just keep their normal sidearms and the P90 as the trunk gun. But yeah the 5.7 has so much velocity that it can stop too early. Can be a good thing in the urban setting. If you wanted to have a perfect pair maybe out of the pistol they could use the slower rounds and out of the rifle AP or specialty rounds. It would come down to the ammo choices.
