Either the US takes action or it wont, I'd give it about 60 /40 against.
The choices the US faces is crumble slowly over time like the British empire or go down fighting. That's it. those are the choices. If We allow NK to get them, in ten years or less the Iranians will get them, then the Saudis will need them to protect themselves against Iran.On and on across the globe. The situation wont get better, it will get worse.
Diplomatic efforts over the last 20 years have failed. the nuclear genie is out of the bottle now. in twenty years or more most countries will have them and the US loses its nuclear monopoly .
The alternative could be worse. the possibility of a nuclear war with China and or Russia over the control of North Korea.
the third alternative , which I think might happen withen 1or 2 years is a limited attack on NK With only South Korea invading the North where the possibility of a war with China or Russia is reduced drastically.
I don't see the US laying down and dying because of this.

Thanks for the clarification. My understanding was they caused non ionizing electromagnetic radiation much like the microwave bandwidth radiation I worked on for over a decade (J-STARS, B52, A6E, EA6B); except they burst in the gamma spectrum. Once the TWT or Magnetron shuts off, it no longer puts out non ionizing electromagnetic radiation. That's one reason we pressurized the wave tubes on our radar tests - so we knew if microwaves were leaking out during transmission. When pressure went to zero you would see like these white ghosts shooting out of the end of the flexible wave tube. In that article you posted, it said gamma and neutrons were 40%. I thought that it was supposed to be closer to 90%. or something. I know most of that article means nothing to you because it's really EE theory; but if it was closer to 100% gamma waves and neutrons then it would do what I always thought - kill everyone and leave the structures alone.

I fucking knew it! I remember reading that in those early tests NK did that Iran scientists were always present. I figured they were sucking down free test information for use at home on their systems. Israel needs to absolutely decimate Iran ASAP. Fucking Obama - he gave them $100 billion. That goes a long way in nuclear weapons research. The whole Manhattan Project only cost like $2 billion. I bet Iran has dozens of nuclear weapons ready to go by this point. I think they had something like 50,000 centrifuges or something. Obama did this to arm Sharia countries - they should try him for treason. Gamma is ionizing radiation by definition, and neutron radiation actually activates inert materials transmuting them into radioactive elements.
What you are thinking of sounds more like an explosively pumped flux compression generator, i.e. and EMP device that would kill the electronics and keep the people.

In order to he harmful to an organizism non-ionizing radiation (visible light and lower frequencies) needs to have a laser like intensify, and it will have a similar effect on any material that it does to a human. A 10KW CO2 laser in the far infrared will go through a block of steel as fast as it will your arm, any non-ionizing radiation of an intensity high enough to do more than blind will do the same.
I understand plenty of EE stuff, I spent some time in undergrad in an EE related field.
When you're dealing with the power output of a nuke, 40% is *very* efficient.

I don't know much about nukes, tbh. I spent about a year working on MX/Peacekeeper; but my role was just to work with the LCSC which is the software console that controls the launch. We ran software tests and checked results; no touching of actual hardware or working on missile technology. Never been around a missile in my life. Once I tried to transfer from Norden Systems to United Space Boosters because I heard living in Huntsville AL was order of magnitude cheaper than Norwalk CT; but USBI didn't want any of us radar junkies because they felt they were better off using people right out of college that did Aerospace Engineering instead of EET. I guess it's for the best - I later found out living in the South was beyond horrible. I would have been miserable around all those baptist rednecks.
While I would love to see USA use weapons that allow South Korea to recover the areas that are attacked in NK; I guess it's not the end of the world if they can't. I feel the opposite about Iran though. Persia holds some of the world's oldest civilizations; and it really bothers me that ISIS has just been wantonly destroying ancient apocrypha and artifacts. I don't feel we should do that. So maybe with Iran you just melt the nuclear sites and then roll in with a huge UN force and take out the regime and then let the people vote. But with SK - they could just absorb the whole NK country into their existing government infrastructure; but would need cash from all the Western countries to modernize that half of Korea.

There's the possibility that China has told them they would fight on the side of North Korea. which means a war with China. The US isn't concerned about the military capabilities' of NK .Without aid from China or Russia The north would be decimated in 1 month .
I think military pieces assets and units are quietly being positioned. I'm trying to read between the lines on what people are saying. Just 2 days ago a general said to expect the next war to be much broader and involved than what we have grown used to fighting the war on radical Islamic terrorists.
Trump just said that the people he trusts most in DC are military members and generals because he knows they are loyal. And then he promotes a general to chief of staff.
I think it was general Mattis just this week who publically stated that the DoD is reviewing and stopping all in necessary training that doesn't directly relate to war fighting and capabilities and we need to focus on fighting and being prepared to fight.

Taken individually there are many non descript comments being made that by themselves don't seem to really indicate much. But if you take the sum of the parts and observe what is being said together by many people and put in context to NK I think the message is becoming more clear. That conflict is a very real possibility.
Trump has already made his statements on record that he doesn't want a nuclear capable NK multiple times. Does he still believe it or will be go back on it? If he believes it I'm sure he is getting daily briefings saying the window to do something is quickly closing.

I think the cat is already out of the bag, candidly. If Manhattan Project consumed $2 billion ($20 billion in today dollars) and Ovomit gave Iran $100 billion (including $33 billion in US gold reserves and cash) then they are well funded for making nukes. The news reported from the very beginning that Iran's scientists were present at and leading the testing of nuclear tests in North Korea a few years back. Now they even test launches within 24 hours of each other; almost like a joint test to see if they can work together. Ovomit and Drumpf have screwed the pooch, and are screwing the pooch. I'm still kind of surprised that we cannot convince China to invade and absorb North Korea.

And it's suddenly glaringly obvious to me they laugh as they say this. They say it just so that the idiots involved in these exercises think it bugs NK (those idiots being SK, japan, usa, etc.). Meanwhile they keep developing their missiles while crying crocodile tears over this terrible joint exercises. Being played for damned idiots for decades now.
If we aren't going to attack NK we need to blockade all their ports and do what we can to get China to shut down the border. If they won't, we make them pay dearly for it economically. With no trade NK is dead. As a carrot we can also make deals with China that are more lucrative than whatever they lose with cutting off trade to NK.

The problem is south Korea and japan. South Korea can be hit hard with artillery. We dont want that. The US doent flaunt its military tech, we don't show our hand.
