While I'm already sold on HSTs and Gold Dots I am going to keep my eye on these as maybe a good option maybe

Well, you do have 4 separate wound tracks, 4 separate chances to hit something vital, cut an artery. Only problem is what happens if the bullet passes through an arm fist? Other than that it would seem that there is maybe enough penetration on the fragments to be effective. I dunno. Seems a little chancy to me.Here’s the thing about controlled fragmenting ammo like this. The 3 parts that fragment, don’t penetrate deep. All they create is flesh wounds. Flesh wounds don’t kill you. So you are left with a smaller and lighter projectile that is actually doing the work of going deep enough to hit a vital organ.
Because it’s lighter, it is more prone to go off path. So this is like a 9mm turning into a lightweight .380 after the front pieces break off.
Snake oil in my opinion. But it looks good in gel so people will buy it.
Yeah but they don’t penetrate deep enough to create these wound paths. A similar round the RIP, it’s controlled fragments penetrated about 4 inches in gel which on a body, just barely penetrates the skin. (You can look that up). It’s shallow damage will be like birdshot which looks gruesome and bloody but very survivable since it’s shallow.Well, you do have 4 separate wound tracks, 4 separate chances to hit something vital, cut an artery. Here is the thing though I appreciate the potential of this kind of polymer jacketed ammunition to be a low cost alternative and I would like to see the Federal Syntech become a success. I have shot a case of the round nose stuff and it was fine. Does Federal have a patent on this? I'd like to see more companies offer it, bring the prices lower.
Well the RIP was well over $1 a round. This stuff is only $.38 I think. And it's only 3 petals instead of numerous so each has more mass and better pen potential at least. And that’s assuming you hit your target at 10 ft and not further away unlike the test without another barrier in the way to further slow down the bullet.
I think we need a pig. MAC fired an Xtreme Penetrator which makes a large wound channel in gel and in the pig, the wound was the same size as a ball round. And that Xtreme Penetrator that does about 60 inches in gel did not exit the pig.Methinks we need a Paul Harrel meat target test of this.
I’m guessing that the core being 124 grains is hopeful. Look how short that core is. It’s like the size of a 95 gr .380. But even if that’s the case and it is 124 grains, wouldn’t you want a proper 124 grain ball round instead (because that’s what the core is. A ball round.) that penetrates deeper? Also factor in maybe the 3 pedals equal about 14 grains That still leaves 124g penetrating vs say the RIP which was something like 80 grains kinda penetrating

I bought a few boxes of this at Walmart. Shot clean and was light on recoil. It was cheap so I bought it just to see how clean it was.
It did better than I thought it would.
Over 18 inches for core (about 80 grains). 9-10 inches for fragments spreading out 6-8 inches.
I think it’s impressive. Also the core going over 18. It’s like a fmj that has nasty little fragments.I'll give them credit 8-10 inches for the pedal isnt great but better than some other "carry ammo"

So. Just like I guessed. A .380 Acp FMJ with superficial damage behind it. Not worth changing from proven loads. I would go with the FBI’s choice of Critical Duty where the whole expanded hollow point penetrates over 16 inches. It did better than I thought it would.

Mosin Steel core are nasty in a deer .. but good too .. half the guts were gone .. saved me some time LOL ..
Since I will never own a tiger, let alone a Dragunov, I hope to one day get my hands on a true PSL, and will even be ok with a vepr in x54r
just watch out on that 54R and don't get rim locked ..
