So the recoil impulse of a G17 is the same as a G43x?
Or even better a G17 with x300u or tlr-1 has the same recoil impuls and tracking as a g43x?

To ikilledkenny's predicament, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a Glock in a store, but if you do, I suggest you try them out. A Glock 17 has lots of pros, including that it would be a great one to learn handgun shooting fundamentals. Once 9mm isn't picked clean off the shelves, it's cheap enough to shoot a lot of it. A long sight radius (the distance between front and rear sights) helps with precision when you want to shoot tight groups in slow fire. A full grip lets you get a lot of surface area for your hands to not only manage, but control recoil.
It would make a great bedside gun with a flashlight. As for carry, some people can carry them concealed, some can't. Edwardteach72 seems to carry big guns. I could never get the full sized, double-stack grip not to print badly.
In my opinion based on what seems to work/not work for me, I like the idea of a Glock 34 (5.3" barrel) as a bedside/range gun and a Glock 19 (4" barrel) as a carry/range gun. I can't conceal such a big grip anyway, so if I'd get a big pistol for home defense and target shooting, I'd rather go for a Glock 34 and get a MUCH longer sight radius. A G17 adds +0.5" in barrel length and sight radius over a Glock 19. A G34 is the same exact grip size as the G17, but adds +1.3" in barrel length and sight radius over the G19. I think there's an even longer one called the G24L which has a 6" barrel, but I've never seen or handled one.
That said, a Glock 19 has plenty of barrel to get good ballistics out of 9mm. Most load data and ballistics charts I can think of for 9mm is based on a 4" barrel, which a Glock 19 has. It has a big enough grip to fill most hands to control recoil, and it's got enough sight radius to shoot well.
As for a .45 ACP, I can't get into Glock's offerings in those calibers. I've shot the Glock 21, their full-sized option, and the G36, its single-stack, thinner, smaller brother. The Glock 21 feels to me like gripping a 2x4 and feels like a brick in my waistbamd. As for the Glock 35, it feels great in my hands, but I hate the way it shoots. The recoil feels way worse. It's not painful or anything like that, just weird and wrong, as subjective as that is. For whatever reason, as good as it felt to hold in my hand, I shot it like crap. I followed sooting it with a tiny J-frame .38 special and shot a much smaller group with it than the G36. I love the way a good 1911 .45 shoots and feels. Good 1911s have my favorite autoloader triggers by far, they're generally heavier (around 40oz.) than polymer guns so that helps the recoil, which to me feels slower and smoother than the recoil of a polymer 9mm, and I tend to be about as accurate as I can get with them. However, their reliability varies. Some can be as reliable as your average Glock, but others will be picky about ammo or will never be perfectly reliable no matter what ammo you feed them. I'd say a 1911 is a nice choice for a fun .45, but I wouldn't get it as a first handgun. For that, I think you're on the right track with a 9mm Glock. The worst that's likely to happen with one of those is that you get bored of it, but chances of getting an unreliable lemon are very slim.

As far as .45's are concerned- if you aren't in the market for a 1911 pattern gun or a Glock, I have both a Sig P227 (10 round .45) and S&W M&P in .45. I like the SIG because I am very comfortable with the SIG manual of arms but as a double stack 45 it is a handful.
For whatever reasons the M&P performs very (very) well for me, recoil and accuracy wise.

i called and emailed around a few shops [atleast the one answered], no one seems have g19 gen 5 FS at the moment.
but one shop in long island had, p229 legion sao. [seems like a nice alternative to g19, with my limited research]
guy told me he cant sell me a pistol with out a permit in nassau county,
but for westchester application i need to purchase a gun, and put the serial number in the form.
question: is it true what the guy said in nassau county?
should i just stick to westchester shops.
seems like there are gazillion pistols in market and from every manufacturer with minute variations on each pistol, the permutations and combinations are dang confusing.

That might be the store policy but it is not a state law.
Good idea. There are very few guns in the market, especially desirable ones, and many, many buyers for them. Now is not the time to be picky. Just get anything for now.
Why don't you just go to the local gun store and buy an inexpensive .22 handgun? Should be easy to find, cheap, and you'll use it because it's cheap to shoot. Once you get your permit, hopefully your perfect gun will be in stock and you'll add it then.
He can sell it to you but can't transfer it until your permit is squared away. Same as any on line seller will sell you a gun and ship to an FFL. The FFL retains posession until the proper paperwork is provided then transfers the gun to you. He probably doesn't want to store it for you or deal with the hassle.

When I applied for my permit It was a 2 year wait.
1 year for the appointment and 1 year for the permit.
I didn't want to take any chances so I bought a Ruger Mark III (22) and applied for a target permit.
I received it in 3 months from the time of the interview.
That was unheard of at the time.

on a different note, is it me or local gun stores in general seem unwelcoming/unhelpful [for the lack of better word]? or its just a NY thing.

yea, upto a year. would have to keep them posted i guess if it goes beyond 1 year and pay a small fee to continue [i am guessing]. but no contact after year seems 50% return with 20% restocking [whatever that means]. i plan on keeping them posted.

You can carry safely without a comprehensive understanding of the byzantine NY laws.
Just know the 4 basic safety laws and the 5th law for self defense "assume you're going to jail anyway, and don't draw your weapon unless the consequences of not doing so are worse"
Obviously a good understanding of the law is very valuable, but it isn't absolutely necessary for responsible carry IMHO.

Expansion is only valuable once the penetration is adequate.
Agree with you mostly but you can also drive a car without getting in an accident most likely, but knowing the traffic laws will save you a lot of trouble.
Looks like the county clerk's office is finally open and they are accepting appointments to pick up new licenses. Hope that means they will start accepting appointments for new licenses soon.
