Mossberg's pump-action's run just fine. They're not the most refined pump-action shotgun on the market, but they have a reputation for reliability.
Mossberg's semi-auto's sometimes have issues, but here's a news flash: so do most semi-auto shotguns. You can go drop $1,400 on a Benelli M2 and...
Depends on the weight of revolver and caliber you're shooting.
The short (less than 3") scandium .44 mag revolvers will be quite a handful. The snub-nosed, small-frame, scandium .357's magnum's can also be a handful. Too little weight can be a hindrance with some of these cartridges.
The...
S&W R8 (technically the M&P version of the S&W TRR8): 8 shot revolver chambered in .357 magnum.
Scandium frame, barrel shroud, steel barrel and cylinders. Trigger and action tuned by the S&W performance center. Other than rear night sights being added, no aftermarket modifications have been...
As others have said, if you're looking to install a standard-sized muzzle brake onto a rifle with a threaded barrel...there's not much to it.
If you want to have your non-threaded barrel threaded and a custom muzzle brake installed, a gunsmith would be the way to go.
I don't know where you...
Reduces recoil.
Some of the hunters out west prefer them if they're using a magnum, or otherwise recoil-heavy cartridge.
For most hunters, it's probably an overkill since they're looking at 1, maybe 2-3 shots total. They make a lot more sense on a target or competition rifle. I can attest...
I think the "finish" issue that people keep bringing was more common with the early Legion variants. Sig seems to have ironed out some of those quality problems with the more recent models.
And I totally see both sides of the coin with regards to the Legion's value. A 229 or 226 Legion is...
Well you obviously don't agree with my use of the word "innovative." So is it really that much of stretch on my part to state that you dislike my choice of words?
If you didn't have a problem with my word choice, then why the heck have you been consistently arguing with me on this thread?
By...
Yep, and there is a reason why those "others" have gained little, if any, market share of the pump-action shotgun segment. I think Mossberg's and Remington's designs will prove to be better and more popular over the long term by comparison. If an organization improves an existing design...
Fine, I misspoke on the pricing...you got me. The 2 firearms (Mossberg's 590m vs what I assume is Black Aces' base 500) are about the same but, as I said earlier, you get what you pay for with regards to magazine design and feeding systems.
Cost aside, there are no facts....this is a...
Very nice!
IMHO, chest holsters are the way to go for carrying around heavy revolvers that are quickly accessible. I picked a similar one (Diamond D Guide's Choice) for my S&W. Very pricey, but well-made and can easily be tailored to an individual's stature and girth.
I don't understand why someone would get nervous about the # of firearms an enthusiast owns. Unless you're a mutant with more than 2 hands, the most you can fire at any one time, and still be mobile, is 2 (and its debatable how accurate you're going to be with that non-dominant hand firearm)...
Does your avatar appear differently on your screen?
Because on my screen I see a tacti-cool pose in front of an American flag, in case any of us forgot that you're badass hero with 'real world' experience.
That post wasn't addressed to you.
Back on topic, if you want to buy a Black Aces...
And Edward wants to accuse me of being the butthurt one? Really?
You and @Edwardteach72 seem to have a hand in almost every thread here....but i guess everyone is into different hobbies.
I never threatened to ignore you and I never questioned your service. I did question how likely it was for...
Lol, well if the previous magazine-fed pump's were crap, which IMO they were, then yeah its entirely feasible that Mossberg (and Remington) have in fact innovated the pump-action market.
I'm not butthurt in the least if you disagree with that. I just find it weird that you're so committed to...
Then why are so invested in this conversation? And why do have such high regard for Black Aces stuff, especially considering that you've never handled their products or even plan to own them?
Is that $500 Black Aces Pro Series using a Mossberg 500 or Maverick as its foundation? Because if...
Good. Put your money where mouth is and go buy one. Please let us know how it works.
I already know enough about the reliability record of the Saiga magazines, to includes Black Aces' products; there are better and more reliable shoguns at that price point.
All you've done so far is talk things that you've read on the internet.
I'm looking forward to your review of the 2 products side by side, so that you can prove to me, and everyone else here, that the 2 are exactly the same in all aspects except cost.
Mossberg magazines might cost more, but...
Well if Mossberg is producing an "innovative" design, then by extension the company itself is "innovating" the market.
Black Aces came up with a similar concept earlier (and I'm sure plenty of other companies experimented with that design prior to Black Aces doing so). Compare price...
I said the magazine system was "innovative" for the OEM firearms market.
I understand that certain aftermarket companies had developed magazine systems prior to the 590m's arrival. I guess I just don't place the same credibility and faith in an aftermarket design as I do with an OEM design...
You're looking at spending $700-$800 (at a minimum) just to have Black Aces modify a $400-$500 Mossberg 500/590.
Or you can buy a factory-warrantied, magazine-fed Mossberg 590M for ~$500.
Perhaps Black Aces does good work, and their finished product is "better" than what Mossberg is offering...
I think the Heller decision ruled against DC's outright ban on handgun ownership.
The ruling still left some leeway for lower federal or state courts to have some discretion on certain issues (ie requirements/restrictions for conceal carry or owning so-called "weapons of war").
Unless you want to provide pictures and the reference to the zoologist who "confirmed" the sighting, I call BS. I also find it hard to believe that an accredited zoologist would "confirm" a cougar sighting and not tell the DEC about it.
Since the early 1900's (when they were extirpated), there...
That's why there is a perception held by some that mountain lion do in fact reside in NY: because everyone's uncle, nephew, grandfather, ect. has seen one...
Yet it when it comes time to produce concrete evidence (tracks, a kill site, scat samples, a photo that isn't grainy as s#%t) there isn't...
I'm just pointing out that Mountain Lion don't inhabit NY, and the judge might get the wrong impression if you're citing that animal's presence as a reason for your unrestricted carry.
Also, what is a "sportsman" carry? According to Penal law 400, there is no such thing. The most permissive...
I would second the comment which recommended taking out references to specific animals (especially mountain lion).
Just keep it simple: you want to be able to carry a sidearm in case you run into aggressive predators. Also, if you hunt or track wounded game, you could bring up the use of a...
^This.
I've had the opportunity to shoot 6.5 CM; it's a great cartridge, very good BC's with very little recoil (at least compared to some of the more traditional .30 caliber's out there). So I totally understand why it has become so popular with the PRS and other competition crowds.
However...
I'm at the GCL for the time being, already paid my annual dues.
How many rifle lanes are there that go out to 200 yards? GCL isn't great with what it offers for rifle and shotgun, but I never have any trouble finding a lane to go all the way out to 200. GCL is mostly constrained by its...
How do you like the Brooks club?
I had considered joining, but I got more of a country-club vibe from it rather than a traditional gun club vibe. They seem more focused on skeet and trap shooting than anything else.
I'm w/ the Genesee Conservation League. ~$150 per year for access to all the...
What's there to compare?
How about: Reliability and track record (which one will work over the long term); the design of the actual magazines and feeding systems (you even seem to acknowledge that they are not exactly the same); cost (buying a 590M is a lot less expensive vs buying a 500/590...
Custom gun shop (which uses mossberg 500's) vs. a major firearm manufacturer.
Pricing for the actual shotguns isn't even in the same ballpark.
The 590M is an OEM produced and warrantied magazine-fed pump-action. I don't know if its a first among the major OEM's, but it certainly is the first...
I paid ~$520 for mine before FFL fees: 9 shot, with XS ghost ring sights.
I think the Magpul trim might fetch a bit higher. Regardless, $800-$900 for essentially the same shotgun but with different stock and fore-end pieces is a bit foolish.
Credit to Mossberg for innovating the pump-action market.
I wonder if NY will attempt to restrict or prohibit these types of shotguns as they become more prevalent.
Yes, that's the main issue with 590a1: it's very heavy, especially with 8+1 and a side saddle. It certainly can be used well enough if you develop a little bit of muscle, but its not as nimble as some of the lighter-barreled pump-actions. But I don't mind that, since it's a workhorse of a...
You're using slang that doesn't mean anything.
Whether or not a law is "on the books" doesn't matter if a judge has overruled it. Judiciary branch is there to vet and decide whether legislation is constitutional. A judged ruled that the 7 round limit was "too arbitrary." A DA would be foolish...
I would bet dollars to donuts that your online persona has nothing to do with who you are or what you do in real life.
But that's the beauty of living in a free society I suppose....
My name's not Ed by the way.
Multiple attackers at once?
Terrorism?
Outside of NYC, I just don't know for what part of NY state that would be a major and/or realistic concern during a daily routine. And honestly, NYC isn't even that bad so long as you don't act like a complete fool.
You don't sound like a NYC resident...
It is far-fetched. Most people in this country will never encounter a life-or-death scenario involving a firearm, much less one where more than a few rounds will be shot. If you don't want to believe that, fine by me. Despite what the media portrays, gun crime rates have been gradually...
Yep, it seems your mind was made-up from the get-go.
Statistically it is very unlikely that a citizen is going to get in a prolonged shootout where more than a few rounds are needed.
Does that mean citizens should be prohibited from carrying more than a few rounds?
No
Does that mean that a...
Are you really that dull that you can't even follow the logic of your own posts?
You accused me of being in favor of magazine limits (which the SAFE Act recently codified) and you've said, numerous times now, that I am lecturing other people on how many rounds they should carry for...
You're editing your original post w/ additional comments that put words in my mouth.
So because I think a 6-shot revolver is adequate for self-defense, that means I'm in favor of the SAFE Act's magazine limit and that all CCW permit holders should only be allowed to carry a certain # of rounds...
There were some pretty overt insinuations that certain calibers are not ideal for self-defense....go re-read some of the earlier posts I responded to and refresh your memory.
I have no problem with people having a prepared mindset and carrying what they're comfortable with....I've said that...
If that portion of the law has been repealed (which we all agree that is has been), then a police agency cannot legally enforce said law.
They might arrest you and try to charge you (though I've yet to hear of someone getting arrested purely for breaking the 7-round magazine limit) but said...
